Hot flashes, night sweats, irritability – your body has gone crazy! What is going on and what can you do about it? You do not have to be a victim of menopause or andropause. You can take control! We are going to discuss menopause, andropause, and bio-identical hormone therapy. Bioidentical hormone therapy can help you regain control over your own body and feel your best. Let’s take a deeper look so that you have a better understanding of what to do and where to go to get the help you need.
Both women and men are affected by aging. These changes make their appearance in the forms of menopause and andropause. Bioidentical hormone therapy, available at Fountain of You, can help balance your hormones, returning you to a feeling of balance and overall well-being.
Fountain of You is a boutique med spa with locations in Melbourne, FL, and Merritt Island, FL. We offer a wide variety of aesthetic services such as Botox, chemical peels, and laser hair removal. Another service that we are proud to offer is our bioidentical hormone therapy for women in menopause and men in andropause.
What is Menopause?
If you are reading this, then you have likely heard of menopause and have at least a vague idea of what it entails. You may even be going through it now. According to the Mayo Clinic, “Menopause is the time that marks the end of your menstrual cycles. It’s diagnosed after you’ve gone 12 months without a menstrual period.” That sounds fantastic, doesn’t it? No more menstrual periods! Woo hoo! No more cramps, no more discomfort, no more crankiness. Unfortunately, it’s not quite that simple. Some women sail through menopause quite easily. Others, however, experience an array of symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, irritability, and insomnia. These symptoms last for years.
What is Andropause?
Andropause is discussed much less than menopause. It is just as real though and should be addressed. Andropause is a word used to describe a decrease in testosterone levels which affects a male’s libido (sex drive). They may also experience symptoms such as depression, sleep issues, and memory problems. Lower testosterone levels occur in all men over time. This is a slower occurrence than what women experience with menopause. This may be one reason it is less well-known and harder to recognize.
What is Bioidentical Hormone Therapy
Let’s move on to some good news! All the above information may seem a little discouraging, but that isn’t the end of the story. Bioidentical hormones mirror the elaborate chemical and molecular structures of our body and its naturally occurring hormones. By replacing the diminishing natural hormones in your body with bioidentical hormones, we can reduce or even eliminate the symptoms associated with menopause and andropause. See, we told you there was good news!
Bioidentical Hormone Therapy for Women
We will start with a thorough blood panel to determine your current hormone levels. Estrogen, progesterone, testosterone (yes, women have it too!), Human Growth Hormone (HGH), and DHEA are all hormones affected by age and menopause. Your thyroid function can also be affected by these changing hormone levels. We will check your thyroid function with the blood panel, as well.
After analyzing your blood panel, we will come up with a plan specific to you to help restore your natural hormone balance. One of these hormones, DHEA, is very helpful in this process. DHEA is the body’s “master hormone.” It can actually be metabolized into other hormones which is quite remarkable. Because of this, supplementing with DHEA may allow your body to choose which hormone it needs. Then, DHEA converts into that needed hormone.
Bioidentical Hormone Therapy for Men
As we do with our female clients, we will begin with a thorough blood panel to get a clear picture of what is going on with your hormone levels. We will look at testosterone, HGH, and DHEA which are all hormones affected by age and andropause. We will also look at your thyroid function.
We will then develop a plan unique to your body and its needs. Often, men want to jump straight to testosterone replacement therapy thinking that it will fix everything. It is beneficial for many men, but Dr. Zipper will look at the results of your bloodwork to determine if that is the right course of action for you. As mentioned above, DHEA may be the right response as it can convert to other needed hormones.
