The hot, humid days of summer are finally giving way to cooler weather here in Brevard County, Florida. While it might not exactly be sweater weather yet, we’re not complaining! There’s a crispness to the air, and the temperatures aren’t in the triple digits anymore. Yes, it’s officially fall. Time to trade your summer dresses for cute scarves and boots! It also might be time to switch up your skincare regimen. Since it’s getting progressively cooler and drier this time of year, it’s important to adjust the products you use on your face and body to account for this. Let’s look at some great skincare and beauty tips for autumn.
1. Lighten Up
You probably caught a tan during the summer months if you spent much time outside or at the beach. While we are major believers in slathering on sunscreen, that doesn’t mean you can’t get a summer glow even with sunscreen. Now that fall’s here, you might not be spending as much time outdoors, which means you’ll lose your tan. Sure, you can use bronzer if you like a sun-kissed glow year-round, but make sure any concealer or foundation you use prior to applying bronzer matches the natural color of your skin. You might need to go a shade or two lighter with your makeup during autumn to avoid your face looking darker than your neck.
2. Don’t Skip the SPF
Just because you’re not laying out on the beach anymore doesn’t mean you don’t need SPF! You’re still exposed to the sun throughout the day, whether it’s while driving, walking the dog, or sitting by a window. Make sure to use a face moisturizer with SPF to protect your skin from UV rays.
3. Exfoliate & Moisturize
Exfoliation should always be part of your weekly skincare process. How often you exfoliate really depends on your skin type and the products you use, but exfoliating every day can actually harm your skin. Over-exfoliating will strip the skin of its natural oils, causing breakouts. As a rule of thumb, exfoliating 2-3 times per week is sufficient. This will leave your skin smooth and ready to soak in moisturizer.
As we’ve said, fall in Florida is less humid than spring or summer months, so consider investing in deep moisturizers for your face and body. The face moisturizer you use will, of course, depend on your skin type. It wouldn’t hurt to consult with Christel, the medical aesthetician at Fountain of You, to find a great moisturizer to meet your needs!
4. Book a Facial
With the drier weather, your skin could use a little extra TLC. Now is the perfect time to book a facial near you! If you think facials are not necessary, let’s put it to you this way. You maintain your teeth with bi-annual teeth cleanings at the dentist, maintain your health with regular check-ups with your doctor, and maintain your hair by getting it cut every few months, right? Why should your skin be any different? Investing a little time and money to maintain your skin will make a big difference, and regular facials are a great way to do just that. Trained beauty professionals and estheticians can provide a super deep cleanse and go over ways you can take great care of your specific skin type. They can even recommend products to help fight the signs of aging or acne. Trust us, your skin will thank you!
