Change Your Perspective on Weight Loss

There is nothing wrong with examining your past victories and mistakes when it comes to setting new weight-loss goals. However, for many of us, reminiscing about the glory days when you used to be “thin” and wondering how you came to be at your current weight is nothing but a trap leading to negative thoughts and actions.

Are you currently attempting to change your ways and make peace with the body you have and the one you hope to obtain one day? If so, you are not alone. Many people on the road to health and wellness experience emotional roadblocks in some form or another. It can feel like the weight is taking forever to come off. You may wonder what you are doing wrong (chances are the answer to that question is nothing) and get bogged down in negativity. However, changing your attitude towards your current situation will help you overcome your challenges and love yourself for who you are right now.

One thing you can do is concentrate on how you are feeling. Did you know that the number on the scale, while certainly indicative of weight loss, is not the end all be all? Many factors can contribute to your weight. Things like sleep, hydration, salt, menses, hormones, inflammation, and more. You can do everything right and still not be satisfied with what you see on the scale. If possible, change your mindset from numbers to how you feel about your body. Are your evolving eating habits making you feel lighter and more confident? Celebrate that! Did you crush your workout this morning? This is cause for delight! The more you can focus on how the positive changes you are creating make you feel, the less you will be affected by the scale.

Many of us are tricked into believing that the only changes that matter are massive ones. Sure, it’s fun to see gains in the gym and smaller pant sizes, but what about celebrating your maintenance mode. If you have lost weight AND kept it off, kudos to you! You didn’t let the weight loss and weight gain cycles take over. According to the MyFitnessPal site, only twenty percent of those who meet their weight loss goals maintain them for at least a year. If you are one of the lucky few, keep going. If you have gained weight back, know that you are not alone. You can work towards a new goal!
