What is Eyebrow Microblading?

Eyebrow Microblading Before & After

Tired of filling in your eyebrows with makeup? You’re not alone. Over the years men and women have tweezed, waxed, colored, and even tattooed their eyebrows to get the perfect look. Many people use eyebrow pencils, gels, or other products to hide sparse areas in their eyebrow hair or to correct the shape of their brows. This can get tedious, especially when the process needs to be repeated almost every day. But, thanks to modern technology, there’s a better, longer-lasting way to get the brows of your dreams – eyebrow microblading. So, what is microblading anyway?

How Microblading Works

Microblading is a semi-permanent way to shape or reconstruct the eyebrows with a technique that shares similarities with tattooing. Unlike tattoos, however, the effects from microblading are not permanent and the results look very natural. Microblading is done using a small handheld device with multiple tiny needles. These needles scrape the skin and deposit very fine lines of pigment to mimic eyebrow hairs. The needles only penetrate the very upper layers of the dermis which is why the results are not permanent.

What to Expect

You will first consult with a beauty professional or esthetician to discuss what you’re hoping to achieve. They’ll explain the process they’ll use to achieve the results you want, and you’ll be instructed on how to prepare for the treatment. When you come in for your appointment, a topical numbing cream will generally be used to minimize discomfort, so the process is virtually painless. The color of the ink used to create the “hair” of your eyebrows will be selected to match your natural color or the color of your choosing. Once the color and shape of the brows have been determined, your esthetician will use a device to create featherweight strokes, depositing pigment in your eyebrow area in a way that mimics real hair. The results will be full, natural-looking eyebrows that appear groomed and shaped to your liking.

How Long the Results Last

The length of time the results will last vary from person to person, and many factors come into play. You can expect the results to last anywhere between one and three years. To prolong your microblading results and keep your brows looking crisp, you can go in for a touch-up session every 6 months or so.
