Summer is winding down. Perhaps you are noticing some effects of the summer sun on your face. Does your skin look dull? Are you noticing uneven pigmentation? Dermaplaning is a great way to freshen your facial skin and restore your natural glow!
WHAT IS DERMAPLANING?
Dermaplaning is different than dermabrasion. Dermabrasion uses a high-speed rotating brush to exfoliate the skin. Dermaplaning is an exfoliating procedure that uses a surgical scalpel to scrape away dead skin cells and the vellus, commonly referred to as “peach fuzz.”
For women especially an excessive amount of vellus can be frustrating or embarrassing, particularly if it is dark and more noticeable than light blonde vellus. Dermaplaning is safe to do every few weeks, so if vellus is a recurring issue, it is safe to regularly receive dermaplaning treatments. Hair does not usually grow back any darker or thicker, so that is not a cause for concern either.
Scraping away the dead skin cells brings out softer, smoother skin. It can also help reduce fine lines and wrinkles. It is also used in the treatment of acne scars as it can help reduce their appearance.
WHO CAN HAVE A DERMAPLANING TREATMENT?
Dermaplaning is generally safe. However, if you have inflammatory skin conditions, such as eczema, rosacea, or a current sunburn, then we recommend waiting. Additionally, if you take medication for skin conditions such as acne, please consult with your physician prior to having a dermaplaning treatment. If your acne has cleared, you are no longer on medication and have acne scars, then dermaplaning can be a helpful treatment to reduce the scarring.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE DERMAPLANING TREATMENT?
After the dermaplaning treatment, we apply a hydrating collagen-stimulating mask. This is important because collagen is what your body naturally produces that keeps your skin “plump,” reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. We are offering a September special in which our dermaplaning includes an Obagi Vitamin C Polish with a soothing Vitamin C serum. Additionally, some clients choose to follow their dermaplaning treatment with a chemical peel for a deeper exfoliation. Facial products and treatments are more effective following the dermaplaning treatment. The vellus traps dirt and oil, but without it, the facial products can reach the skin and do their job! Your skin will not be red or irritated! You can apply your makeup immediately and resume your day!
