How to Maintain Results After Your Med Spa Treatments

How to Maintain Results After Your Med Spa Treatments

When you first get your med spa treatments, whatever they may be, you are probably thrilled with the results.  So, how do you maintain the results?  Med spa treatments are not permanent.  They require maintenance for optimal benefits and longevity.

Botox, chemical peels, dermal fillers, and even laser hair removal all require a degree of maintenance.  It isn’t hard, but it is essential.  First, all treatments cost money.  Second, all treatments take time.  When you invest time and money into something, you always want to feel it’s worth it.

At Fountain of You, we believe you will love every treatment you receive from us.  We want you to get the most out of your treatments, so we have written this article to give you some important tips on maintaining a variety of med spa treatments.  Following these tips should help you enjoy the benefits of your treatment and maximize its longevity.

Follow Post-Treatment Care Instructions

Each treatment will have a set of post-treatment care instructions.  It is essential to follow these instructions for the best outcome.  Let’s look at some specific treatments and their instructions.

Botox – One of the main things to remember with facial Botox injections is to be gentle to your face, particularly the first 24 hours.  Do not rub your face as it may displace the Botox from its intended location.  It is recommended to avoid lying down for at least a few hours after treatment.  Additionally, forego alcohol and over-the-counter pain medications for the first day.  They can raise blood pressure which can increase bruising.
Chemical peels – Because your face will peel as if sunburned, there are specific instructions for chemical peel ater-care.  DO NOT PEEL!  Allow the skin to peel on its own without picking or peeling it.  Do not swim or use makeup for the first 24 hours.  Avoid sweating until the skin is healed.  Stay out of direct sunlight for at least the first week.  Use sunscreen daily which everyone should do.  Use a gentle moisturizer which everyone should also do!
Dermal fillers – You can basically resume normal activities after a dermal filler treatment.  However, there are a few things to do to achieve the best results.  Be gentle to your skin.  Don’t rub it or expose it to direct sunlight right away.  Use a gentle cleanser and daily sunscreen.
Laser hair removal  – Avoid sun exposure for at least a month and always use sunscreen.  If given any after-treatment creams, apply as directed.  Do not use fragranced lotions, perfumes, or deodorants following treatment as they may cause irritation.

Stay Consistent with Skin Care

Once you have a med spa treatment and achieve the look you desire, it can be easy to get lazy about skin care.  After all, your skin looks flawless now, right?  But, routine skin care is essential for getting the most out of your treatment as well as the overall health of your skin.  If you have not heard the term non-comedogenic, we want to introduce you to it.  It means a skin product that does not clog pores which can lead to breakouts.  Look for these gentle products and choose non-fragranced skincare. Use sunscreen daily even if you are just running errands.  Use a gentle daily cleanser and moisturizer.

Protect Your Skin From Sun Damage

Nobody wants sun-damaged skin.  Everybody should use sunscreen daily.  This is especially important for those who have had chemical peels or laser treatments.  Additional ways to protect your skin from sun damage include wearing hats, finding shade when possible, and using an umbrella.  While it won’t protect your face, wearing clothes with built-in UV protection is helpful for the rest of your skin.

Stay Hydrated

Again, this is good advice for everyone!  For those of you in your 40s and above, hydration may not have been drilled into you like it is now.  Tang and Koolaid were handed out like they were as good as water.  We know better now.  Staying hydrated with healthy drinks like water or coconut water helps your skin maintain moisture and promotes elasticity.  This will help you maintain a more youthful, healthy appearance.

Schedule Regular Maintenance Appointments

If you love the results of your med spa treatment, you will need to schedule regular maintenance appointments to retain the desired result.  You may eventually not need any more laser hair removal treatments, but the effects of Botox, chemical peels, and dermal fillers will all eventually disappear.  If you stay on top of your treatments with touch-up appointments, your treatments may not need to be as extensive as your first treatment.

Botox results last an average of 3 months.  The results of a chemical peel vary based on the depth of the peel.  Other factors such as skin type and sun exposure will also affect longevity.  A light peel’s results should last a month or two.  You may have years-long results from a deep peel.  You can expect at least 6 months of results from a dermal filler treatment.  Depending on the dermal filler, the area of the face, and your skincare regimen, you may get up to about 18 months of lasting results.  Laser hair removal will take multiple treatments as hair grows in cycles.  Once fully treated, you may never need another laser hair removal treatment.

Conclusion

Med spa treatments require maintenance.  It is important to follow your specific after-care instructions.  Remember, regardless of your treatment, use sunscreen, a gentle cleanser, and a gentle moisturizer daily.  Use sun protection such as hats, shade, and umbrellas.  Stay hydrated to keep your skin healthy.  Don’t forget to schedule your regular maintenance appointments to retain the full effects of your amazing med spa treatments!
