It’s true that some people are lucky enough to be born with the luscious Angelina Jolie-like pout, but that’s not the case for most! Our lips come in different shapes and sizes. Aging can also play a part in the collagen, or lack thereof, in our lips. As we get older, the body doesn’t produce as much collagen and we actually begin to lose volume in the face and lips. So, what’s a gal (or guy) to do to get the lips of their dreams? You guessed it – lip fillers! These injectable treatments are growing in popularity and are super common aesthetic treatments. Within reason, lip fillers can help you achieve the shape and fullness you desire. Fountain of You, Melbourne’s premier anti-aging and aesthetic boutique, offers a variety of dermal fillers and lip injections.
Before getting lip fillers, we will consult with you to find out what look you’re going for and to explain the process to you. It’s always smart to do some research on your own, too, so you can be prepared. Here are answers to some of the most common questions about lip fillers.
1. Are the effects permanent?
There are different types of lip enhancing treatments, and there are permanent options. But, permanent lip fillers are not usually recommended, especially for someone new to the treatment, because, well, they’re permanent! If you don’t like the results it’s a lot harder to reverse permanent fillers than their much more popular temporary counterpart. The most common lip fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, which provides more subtle, temporary results. This substance is a derivative of sugar that’s found in your body, and, over time, it breaks down.
At Fountain of You we offer several different types of fillers depending on the results you want to achieve, so how long they last for will depend on the filler. We carry Juvederm, Restylane, Botox, and other types of dermal fillers. There’s an option for everyone.
2. What if I don’t like my fillers?
We generally recommend our clients start small and then, if they want plumper lips, go bigger over time so the process looks more natural and they can be sure of the size they want. But, if you do not like the look of the fillers (and we’re not talking about permanent fillers here) it’s simple to reverse the treatment. Eraser enzymes can be injected into the lips to break down the hyaluronic acid in the filler faster so your lips can return to how they looked before in a matter of days.
3. What can I do to prepare for my appointment?
Avoid blood thinners like aspirin and ibuprofen for about 10 days prior to your appointment to reduce swelling and bruising. Getting lip fillers done is a pretty quick and easy procedure. Your doctor will go over how to prepare for the treatment and instruct you on how to take care of your lips afterward to attain the best results.
